House prices rising in Wales despite falls across the UK

HOUSE prices in Wales continued to buck the trend, rising during August while values in the rest of the UK fell further, figures exposed yesterday.
Values in Wales climbed a further 0.5% last month, taking the standard Welsh house price to 123,491 pounds.
Across the UK prices dipped by a total of 0.l%. But according to the Land Registry, Wales enjoyed the third biggest price jump in Britain.
Only houses in London and these East and West Midlands experienced greater growth in values.
Welsh estate agents yesterday welcomed the news that once again, the property sector was displayed the signs of recovery.
There was also more evidence that activity in the market is on the rise, with 48,903 homes changing hands in June, the latest month for which figures are available.
This was the maximum number since August last year and only 17% below levels for June 2008.
Property intelligence group Hometrack said that house prices in England and Wales edged ahead by 0.2% in September.
